Busy bee

Although my blog hasn't been getting much posting action lately, I assure you I have not been snoozing. Life has been quite non-stop and though I'm approaching insanity at work, I was able to sneak away for a few days to fly down to California to visit Avery J and the rest of the family. She is an absolute doll. I just can't not share a couple pictures.

In other news, Justin and I have been having fun coming up with new products for our shop Bluejays & Bumblebees. Here are some of the recent favorites:

I also recently got on a painting kick after buying more canvases than one ought to buy. I always enjoy sitting down with some paint brushes, a canvas and a ton of ideas and seeing what will happen next. Those will be revealed at a later date...

I have not been doing a very good job of cooking at home, and am beginning to think a revisit to the detox plan might motivate me. But then I think about berry pie and wonder if I should just make a pie instead. So, this is a call to my readers to send me any delicious vegetarian recipes to get me back in the groove. Otherwise I'm going with pie. But I might just do that anyway.

Aprons and banners

Now that the craziness of Christmas has passed and the gifts have been opened, I can show you what I made for Avery and Nolan.

Avery has just discovered that she loves working in the kitchen with her mom and being a helper (she's almost two), so for Christmas her parents got her the cutest play kitchen. Last night on video chat I watched her moving quickly around her kitchen making soup, and tea, and checking on the pizza, and pulling "hot" items off the stove with her oven mitt. What better for a little chef than an adorable apron?

And in anticipation of Nolan's first birthday (okay, it's not til August, but I get excited), I made him a name banner. If you haven't noticed from past posts I'm in love with blue and white ticking, so surprise! Blue and white stripes, with cranberry red grosgrain ribbon, and felt lettering (hand sewn with embroidery thread, I might add...).
